Temperature testing is by far the most standard general product stress test since temperature changes causes either expansion or contraction of product under test. The rate of temperature fluctuation depends on the type of product being tested. The operating temperature range is from -80°C to 250°C, or -112°F to 482°F. It is primarily a process used to detect internal defects of products, especially for moisture, leakage causing oxidation and rusting.

• Accelerated ageing testing uses ambient conditions to hasten aging in new items that would normally deteriorate with time. Some common tests under this include temperature, humidity, shake and vibration.
• Confluence Testing combines temperature and humidity testing with vibration testing involving rapid temperature change accompanied by changing humidity which shows how the product behaves when in transit or being moved from one place to another.
• Thermal shock testing demonstrates product performance during temperature changes as well as reveals bonding material durability.
• Altitude testing assesses the performance of vehicles, computers and electronic parts for high-mountain and air transport packed under low pressure, high temperatures, high altitudes among others.
• Humidity Testing is similar to water splash and rain water tests using waterproof enclosures with self-contained recirculation. It is used in testings, climatic humidity being referred to as a climatic humidity test chamber.

• Cyclic corrosion testing is where corrosion is accelerated more than it normally does under natural environmental conditions thus mostly employed by auto industry this can i) submerge ii) dry or iii) spray the material. This test involves multiple exposure methods, making it relatively complex.
• Salt Spray Test exposes sample to salt spray/fog; sample stays in constant continuous indirect fog/spray effect.
• Climactic Testing simulates all types of weather known so far to determine how much abuse a given product can take before breaking down. Climactic Tests encompass many other types such as temperature, humidity, sand, dust, corrosion etc.
• Vacuum Testing is performed on equipment meant to be deployed in space and processes using vacuum like vacuum drying or film coating.
• The purpose of cytogenetic testing is preparing in-situ and non-in-situ cell preparations for slide drying tests. Therefore duplication of environmental conditions for chromosome propagation by controlling temperature and humidity is crucial towards better chromatogram appearance check. The result of chromosome analysis is affected by the conditions under which the methyl acetate or ethyl acetate fixative is removed.
• Stability testing evaluates a drug’s quality and longevity. This is normally affected by factors such as temperature, humidity, and light. It also provides instructions on how to handle and store the medicine, when it needs to be reanalyzed, and for how long it will last. There are other tests that are done like accelerated tests, intermediate tests, freeze and thaw tests, bulk holding tests, post-opening period tests among others which are usually carried out most of the times. Excursion testing is a test which depends on time whereby products are exposed to temperatures outside normal conditions thus conditions leading to excursions cannot be predicted. Environmental stress testing or stress testing ensures that products react or perform according to new factory specifications.
